TO CONCLUDE...
Each man discussed had different ways of life, family history, and interests. Their beliefs and passions in the Revolutionary War each reflected their own personal interests and what benefited them personally along with their previous or current family life. Coming from groups with separate occupations, it is easy to recognize why each person believed what they did. While each man is undoubtedly different, it is clear that they are similar in their loyalty or devotion to a certain group, regardless of the consequences. Their differences often outnumber their similarities but they do all fall under the category of a strong leader. I was surprised to evaluate how each man's family seemed to have a large effect on their behavior in war. For example, Tarleton's harsh behavior seems to be a reflection of the way he was raised by a father and three brothers involved in the slave trade and an insecurity in his stature along with enablement of his bad actions growing up. He comes across as reckless and harsh, behaviors that he had evidently seen growing up. He seemed to be on a power trip and undoubtedly held a high perspective of himself, and his vain perception obviously led him to falsely believe that he could act horribly towards others. As someone often considered short, it seems as if "little man syndrome" may play a role in his actions. Growing up in a family that seems to have these same qualities definitely enabled his actions. Fletchall's actions and beliefs seem to reflect that he strived to live in peace with his neighbors and seemed content with where he was at. His sentiments towards the king seem to give the impression that "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." His statements seem to try to avoid conflict to begin with and showcase that he was content in his lifestyle and personal life. Pinckney's perspective seems best explained by his family's large profile and economic profit in South Carolina along with a belief in America from what he had seen his own family do. He watched first hand how people can thrive in the colonies without the king's rule, and his family history reflects a want for independence and a success in business. They had profited and helped to grow South Carolina and were well known there. Because of all that South Carolina had given him, he felt so inclined to give back to the state and help to fight for independence, as someone who has seen the ability of a family to thrive there. As a whole, each man's own history and experiences seem to greatly impact their take on the Revolutionary War.
